Convicted rapist Roman Polanski, the Academy Award-winning director of Chinatown, The Pianist, and Rosemary's Baby was arrested during a raid on his hotel in Switzerland last night. He was convicted on charges of unlawful intercourse with a minor but left the United States before sentencing. Even though the victim has long since moved on with her life, Polanski deserves nothing besides shame and scorn. This crime was not Polanski's debut as a rapist either but money could buy happiness or at least shut some of your victims up. He is human filth. He has been running from American authorities for a 1978 warrant issued after a statutory-rape conviction in which he plead guilty to drugging and almost other things anally raping a 13 year old-girl in his friend Jack Nicholson LA home. What a friend is he? He was about 44 year-old when he gave the 13 year-old girl drugs and then according to the victim forcible raped her. Some of his defenders like to portray the crime as only a statutory case but that is not true, it was a violent crime including forcible rape of a virgin because no consent was given for sex. And certainly the 13 year-old girl did not consent to the anal sex that left her hospitalize
He was arrested in Switzerland late Saturday on behalf of the US. There to accept a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival, Polanski was placed under custody at the Zurich airport. The 76 year-old Polanski, who's been living as a French citizen, was on his way to the Zurich Film Festival, where he was supposed to receive an honorary award and be the recipient of a tribute. The charges and arrest warrant that was submitted in 2005 as an international alert by request of American authorities, meaning someone, somewhere still really wanted to bust him stemming from his 1978 guilty plea to supposedly drugging and definitely having sex with a then 13 year-old Samantha Geimer, an aspiring model, during a "photo shoot" at Jack Nicholson's place in Nicholson's hot tub.
Polanski had earlier photographed the minor topless before drugging, raping and sodomizing her in a case that shocked America. "Polanski is a very arrogant, self-important, creepy old man," says Samantha, now a married mom-of-three who lives with husband David in Hawaii. She said in a 2005 interviw, "He took sex from me and my innocence. I don't think it occurred to him that someone wouldn't want sex with him."
Polanski plead guilty, but said he realized the judge might not honor the plea bargain his lawyers made in his sentencing, and skipped bail leaving the country while waiting for sentencing. Why was he out on bail in the first place after admitting to raping a 13 year-old girl? The judge in the original case, the late Laurence Rittenband, has been accused by Polanski's lawyers of tampering with the verdict for political reasons. Polanski's tried to appeal the decision unsuccessfully. Just two months ago, he unsuccessfully tried to get an appeals court in California to overturn a refusal to even consider throwing out his 1977 case.
On the eve of his sentencing in 1978, Polanski fled the country and since then Polanski has lived in France, avoiding capture throughout the years by staying away from countries with extradition treaties with the US. Interesting enough, he has traveled to Switzerland on numerous occasions without incident and even maintains a home there. Authorities say he was arrested only because they knew a week beforehand that he was coming. But some have speculated the arrested as something to do with Swiss authorities making a deal with American authorities in relation to the recent crackdown on Swiss banks for helping wealthy Americans with tax elevation.
Polanski is still been making films, and won an Oscar for The Pianist in 2003 (which Frantic star Harrison Ford accepted on his behalf), but hasn't returned to the US since. He had the quite the life pre-exile: his wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Manson family. He was a refugee of the Holocaust; his mother told him to run before Nazis could get to him, and she was killed in Auschwitz.
And now, Polanski's situation and life is only going to get worse for all parties involved including the victim, again. The rape victim Samantha Geimer has said she has forgiven him, and wants the case overturned:
The victim at the centre of the case, Samantha Geimer, has previously asked for the charges to be dropped, saying the continued publication of details "causes harm to me, my husband and children.
But the thing is that rape by law is a crime not only against the victim but also the state. So it is not up to the victim whether or not he goes free. But the French seems to be pissed off that the child rapist has been arrested:
France's culture minister says he is "dumbfounded" by the arrest. of the director, who is a french citizen. Frederic Mitterrand said he "strongly regrets that a new ordeal is being inflicted on someone who has already experienced so many of them."
Silly Swiss, arresting an admitted child rapist that has been on the run for three decades. I will never understand the French and the way they allow of of there ministers to defend a man that confess to give drugs to and then raping a 13 year-old girl. His extradition and arrest are being processed there now (both of which he can fight in Swiss courts), but at this point, it seems he is finally heading home to serve time for his crimes. So now the child rapist defenders like NAMBLA and Hollywood will be coming out to show there support for him.
Roman Polanski's been a cause celebre of the film community since it happened. A documentary about the issue (Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired) ran on HBO last year. The documentary portray Polanski as one of the very most respected, hard working filmmakers alive. Expect there to be a huge outpouring of support for him in Hollywood. This is far from over. He only raped a kid. Got her drunk and filled with all sort of drugs popular in the 70's and vaginally and ass raped her in his friends Jacuzzi. What a good friend he is right? I hate being sarcastic but it is true a shit storm is coming and in the next few days we are going to see famous people defending a rapist. It's not he he raped there kids. Roman Raymond Polanski (pl. Roman Rajmund Polański) (born August 18, 1933 in Paris, France) is a Polish-French film director, producer, writer and actor. Polanski began his career in Poland, and later became a celebrated Academy Award-winning director of both art house and commercial films, making such films as Rosemary's Baby (1968) and Chinatown (1974). Polanski is one of the world's best known contemporary film directors and is widely considered as one of the greatest directors of his time. He is also known for his turbulent and controversial personal life. In 1969, his pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Manson Family.
In 1977, he was arrested in Los Angeles and pleaded guilty to "unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor", a 13-year-old girl. Polanski was 44 years old at the time of the crime. Released after a 42-day psychiatric evaluation, Polanski fled to France. For decades, Polanski has been considered by U.S. authorities to be a fugitive from justice, and a U.S. arrest warrant has been outstanding since 1978. Polanski for many years avoided visits to countries that were likely to extradite him, such as the United Kingdom. However, on September 26, 2009, he was arrested by Swiss police on arrival at Zürich Airport while trying to enter Switzerland, on his outstanding 2005 international arrest warrant and at the request of United States authorities. Prior to his arrest, he traveled mostly between France, where he resides, and Poland. As a French citizen, he was protected by France's limited extradition with the United States. blogywoodbabes.blogspot.com
