We lost "The Prince of Darkness" today. Legendary journalist, syndicated columnist and former CNN "Crossfire" co-host Robert Novak has died after a year long battle with cancer, his family said Tuesday. Novak died at home, over a year after doctors diagnosed him with a malignant brain tumor in August 2008. He was dubbed "The Prince of Darkness" by friends for his pessimistic persona, and he used the nickname as the title of his 2007 memoir. Novak for years carried the nickname of "The Prince of Darkness" wearing it as a badge of honor though many of his colleagues have said his reputation was that of a hard-working and even-handed reporter. "Always love your country but never trust your government." Those were the words of Novak, the cantankerous hard-hitting conservative journalist said. I like his journalism because he would go after Republican politicians as hard if not harder than the Dems. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Robert David Sanders "Bob" Novak (February 26, 1931 – August 18, 2009) was a syndicated columnist, journalist and conservative political commentator and for 45 years the author of what was during his lifetime the longest-running current syndicated column in U.S. political history. Over his career, Novak became well-known as a columnist (writing Inside Report since 1963) and as a television personality (appearing on many shows for CNN, most notably on three former programs, The Capital Gang, Crossfire, and Evans, Novak, Hunt, & Shields). On August 4, 2008, Novak announced that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and that his prognosis was "dire", and that he was retiring. However, on August 27, 2008, he resumed writing opinion columns distributed by Creators Syndicate.
